Trainer Anthony Cummings has fired a warning shot to The Everest slot holders, confident that his star mare has improvement to come after her powerful win in the Premiere Stakes.

Libertini powered home to cause an upset over The Everest contenders Nature Strip and Classique Legend, living up to the potential she displayed last spring, before a disappointing autumn preparation.

Anthony Cummings was full of praise for the daughter of I Am Invincible, who he sees as having matured, and has plenty of improvement to come.

“It was good to see her back to her best and sort of force her way into The Everest, that ought to be sorted out today”, Cummings told RSN.

“She’s taken that step from three [years old] to four [years old] and the improvement that comes with that, and having said that she still wasn’t at her best on Saturday.

“There’s obvious improvement to come with the way she presented before the race… she’ll be better again in two weeks time,” Cummings said.

Regarding a slot in The Everest, Cummings was confident that a deal would be struck soon.

“I think it’ll happen later today, we’ve got a couple of written offers… and probably make some sort of an announcement later this afternoon”.

Libertini is a $6 chance in The Everest, behind Classique Legend and Gytrash at $5, with Nature Strip now on the third line of betting at $7.
