Western Australian cult figure jockey William Pike is yet to ride a winner at Flemington, but that could change on Saturday with the in-form rider having a very strong book of rides.

Pike has ridden at Flemington 15 times without success, but has twice been runner up, with Regal Power in the Australian Cup, and Superstorm in the Australian Guineas.

Pike’s Flemington Rides

Race 1 – Schabau – $2.25
Race 3 – Arcadia Queen – $3.20
Race 5 – Mantastic – $23
Race 6 – Windstorm – $2.15
Race 7 – Perfect Jewel – $6.50
Race 8 – Doubtland – $7.50
Race 9 – Yosemite – $14

Pike is aware that he has some very promising looking rides, but isn’t getting carried away.

“I certainly don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch,” Pike told Racenet.

“Let’s put it this way – I’m pretty happy I’ve got the opportunities that I have got on Saturday and I’m really wanting to make the most of them.

“I would love to ride a winner at Flemington but I’m not going into this looking like it’s going to be some sort of breakout day for me.”

Pike is confident that Perfect Jewel can measure up in the Group 1 2020 Makybe Diva Stakes and potentially give him his first Group 1 win in Victoria.

“She has drawn barrier two and that’s great for me, a lot less thinking has to be done and it opens up a lot of options,” Pike said.

“I am still trying to figure out some of the form of horses in this race and working out how deep it is stepping into a Group One.

“We will know more after Saturday but I am sure she is up to winning this.”
