Anthony Freedman-trained Steel Prince has kept his 2020 Melbourne Cup (3200m) dream alive by winning the Group 3 2020 Geelong Cup (2400m) on Wednesday.

The talented stayer worked hard to sit behind the leaders in transit, and won in a tough finish with Le Don De Vie, who lost no fans in his first Australian start.

The win all but assures a weight penalty for the 2020 Melbourne Cup, shooting Steel Prince up the order of entry and into a spot in the final field for the $7.3 million contest on November 3rd.

Steel Prince won his way into the 2019 Melbourne Cup by taking out the Andrew Ramsden over Surprise Baby last year, on his way to finishing 9th in the Melbourne Cup.

Steel Prince has moved in from a $51 chance to a $26 chance in the 2020 Melbourne Cup following today’s win.
