Trainer Mick Price didn’t have any firm spring plans penciled in for three-year-old Cambourne, but that may have changed after the debutant’s impressive first start win at Donald on Friday.

The talented son of Redoute’s Choice was well supported by the market, moving in from $9 and jumping at $3 before his dominant win in a Maiden Plate (1354m) at Donald.

The well-bred colt was a $300,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase, and now a Caulfield Guineas path may be on the agenda for Mick Price, Michael Kent, and connections.

Watch: Cambourne turn heads on debut at Donald.

“I wouldn’t say we’ve had any plans yet, obviously he’s nominated for the Guineas, but he’s just been a very laidback colt at home,” Kent said.

“We’ve always liked him. He gives us a good feel, but race day was always going to be the ultimate test and he’s passed that with flying colours.

“We’ll get him home, I’m sure Mick Price will have a good look at him and map a program out for the spring, but I think after that win you’ve got to have a go at something better.”

Cambourne was at $201 for the Caulfield Guineas prior to the race on Friday, but has been quickly slashed to $34 after the win.

“He’s been lovely and relaxed this horse his whole preparation and it’s probably the first time he’s been given a smack behind the tail and it was fantastic see him really lengthen,” Kent said.

“His pedigree suggests he might get further, that’s what we feel, that he’s got a bit of mile, 10-furlong potential through the dam side, so who knows how far we’ll get but really good way to kick off his career.” (the “site) is not a bookmaking or wagering website.
