Trainer Grahame Begg has decided to rest promising stayer Nonconformist after not being completely satisfied with the horse’s blood work.

The talented four-year-old appears to be on a path to the 2020 Caulfield Cup and 2020 Melbourne Cup, with Begg deciding to take a cautious approach.

“His blood picture wasn’t 100 per cent spot on, so I decided to wait,” Begg said.

“He’s going to run again in a couple of weeks.

“It’s not a setback, it’s just we weren’t 100 per cent happy. He won’t miss too much.”

The son of Rebel Raider was nominated for the 1700m Handicap at Flemington on Saturday.

Nonconformist is a $19 chance in the Caulfield Cup, following his strong first up return.

Watch: Nonconformist work strongly down the outside in his return run.

From Muswellbrook to the Melbourne Cup, Will is mad about all things racing and sport. Spent countless hours in the backyard as a child pretending to be Glenn McGrath, and has been known to get deadly late swing with a taped tennis ball.
