Indigenous Educational Programs
The Wardan Aboriginal Cultural Centre offers programs to introduce students to Indigenous Culture. The programme has been designed to meet the requirements of the Aboriginal Studies Curriculum of the Education Department of WA. The program is presented by Aboriginal instructors in a hands-on manner that is both informative and entertaining.  
PRIMARY CURRICULUM SECONDARY CURRICULUM

The instructors are elders and cultural custodians of the Wardandi cultural group, the traditional custodians of the lands from Busselton to Augusta. The program is located at the Wardan Aboriginal Cultural Centre, a 40 acre bush property 6 km South of Yallingup.

There are three principle areas of teaching (geared to appropriate levels):

 
Bush Story The Bush Story Trail -
Society and Culture, the Environment, History
Subjects: 6 seasons, Mother Earth, Water resources
Use of natural resources available for food, medicine & shelter, hunting & tracking animals, fishing & rock traps.
Use of fire to cook & catch animals & encourage regrowth of vegetation.
Aboriginal history through Dreaming.
Traditional Society and Family.

Tool Making  
Tool Making Workshop & Spear Throwing -

Society and Culture, Law and Decision Making, History
Subjects: Hunters & Gatherers ;Tools for cooking, hunting, collecting water & carrying food.
The making of tools, stone axes and spears: use of natural resources.
Throwing of spears and boomerangs in a controlled environment
(optional depends upon students age and deportment).

The Arts   The Arts -
Law and Decision-making, History, Society and Culture
Art & Face Painting & Interactive Story.
Dancing & Music.
Dreaming through song, dance, music and ceremonial body painting.
Use of ochre & natural resources for painting and blow painting.
Digeredoo demonstration.
Children are encouraged to join in with traditional dance.

Duration -
Schools are encouraged to make a full day excursion.
The programme commences when the class arrives as soon after 9AM as travel time allows.
It is the responsibility of the school to determine the time of departure adequate to meet the students needs to connect with transport home.

Meals -
All meals are the responsibility of the school or student. There is a good supply of rainwater and facilities to wash up, adequate picnic tables and a basic BBQ.

Transport -
to be arranged by the school. The Centre may assist if requested.

Disabled facilities -
Care has been taken to provide ramps, special toilet facilities, hard packed trails and wide doorways.
There may be some restriction to some areas and activities.

Cost -
$20 per parent or student, one teacher free with every 10 students.
LESS 50 % for the first schools to book this term.
